Here’s how to include your dog in your Lake Tahoe Elopement, without stress (and with plenty of adorable photos of course).
If your pup is your ride-or-die, adventure buddy, and truly apart of the family, it only makes sense you’d want them by your side on your wedding day too. Eloping in Lake Tahoe is already an intimate, intentional experience—and bringing your dog along just adds to the magic.
Not all ceremony spots in Lake Tahoe are dog-friendly—so this step is key. Luckily, there are plenty of incredible places that welcome pups on-leash.
Pro tip: Check U.S. Forest Service and California State Park websites for up-to-date pet rules, especially in spots like Emerald Bay or Sand Harbor which have stricter regulations.
Bringing your dog to your Lake Tahoe elopement? Pack them their own little adventure kit! Just like you’re planning for epic vows and dreamy views, your pup needs a few essentials to stay happy, hydrated, and comfortable throughout the day.
Here’s a quick list of dog-friendly elopement must-haves:
Having these packed and ready will make your dog feel just as taken care of as you are on your big day—and trust me, it makes the experience so much smoother.

Even the most well-behaved pup might need a break, water, or a squirrel chase during the ceremony. Having a dog handler (aka dog-sitter for the day) takes the pressure off you and ensures your pup is happy the whole time.
Ask a guest, friend, or hire a professional dog attendant (yes, they exist!) to:
Whether it’s a floral collar, a “Dog of Honor” bandana, or a bowtie that matches your outfit—your pup deserves a little glow-up too. Just make sure whatever they’re wearing is comfortable and secure (and won’t get in the way of sniffing or zoomies).
Also: bring a backup leash in case of tangles, and pack travel-friendly treats and water to keep them calm and comfy.

Some of the cutest elopement moments come from the candid dog reactions—the head tilts, the tail wags, the mid-ceremony snuggles. When I photograph couples with their dogs, I always:
If you’re up for light adventuring, we’ll choose spots that are safe for them too (think: shady trails, mellow terrain, and no steep cliffs).
Checkout this session I captured where they wanted their dog fully incorporated! It was so special!!
This part’s tough, but important: sometimes the best thing for your dog is not being at every part of your elopement day. If the weather’s too hot, the ceremony spot is too crowded, or the timeline would be stressful for them, it’s okay to include them in just part of the day.
You can still:
At the end of the day, your elopement is about celebrating your love in the most you way possible—and if that includes tail wags, happy barks, and a pup curled up at your feet while you say your vows? That’s the good stuff.
Including your dog in your Lake Tahoe elopement isn’t just doable—it’s unforgettable. Whether they’re trotting down the trail with you, sneaking in for a kiss during portraits, or snoozing under the dinner table at your Airbnb, they’ll make your day even more meaningful (and honestly, even cuter).
So pack the treats, grab the leash, and let’s plan a day that feels adventurous, relaxed, and joy-filled—with your best fur friend right by your side.
