Why an Emerald Bay Elopement Is the Best Location to Say “I Do” in Lake Tahoe
Planning a Lake Tahoe elopement? Discover why Emerald Bay is the perfect spot for your intimate ceremony, plus pro tips for the best lighting, views, and timing.
If you’re dreaming of a Lake Tahoe elopement that feels adventurous and private with epic views, let me introduce you to one of the most iconic and magical spots around: Emerald Bay. With its deep blue waters, dramatic cliffs, and panoramic views of Lake Tahoe, an Emerald Bay elopement is straight out of a movie.
As a wedding photographer who’s captured countless elopements in this stunning location, I’m here to give you the full inside scoop on why couples are falling in love with this location — and how to plan the most stress-free, gorgeous day here.

Why Elope at Emerald Bay?
The Views Are Next-Level Beautiful
Emerald Bay is hands down one of the most photographed places in all of Lake Tahoe — and for good reason. From sunrise mist over the bay to golden hour light filtering through the pines, every angle is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Whether you’re saying your vows on a cliffside trail or down by the shoreline, your photos will be unreal.
It’s Perfect for Intimate, Adventurous Moments
Elopements here feel private and sacred. You can hike up to Eagle Falls for a forested ceremony, exchange vows at sunrise with just the sound of birds and waves, or head down to the lake for portraits that feel straight out of a dream. There’s space to slow down, breathe, and just be with each other.
Sunrise & Mid-day Ceremonies = Pure Magic
Pro tip? Sunrise is the secret sauce for an Emerald Bay elopement. It’s peaceful, less crowded, and the soft light pouring over the water and mountains is chef’s kiss perfection. If you’re not a morning person — I promise, this is one early wake-up call that’s 1000% worth it.

Things to Know When Planning an Emerald Bay Elopement
Permits
Yes, you’ll likely need a permit if you’re having a ceremony in a designated area (like Eagle Point or on the trails). Your photographer (hi, I can help with this!) can guide you through the process to keep it simple and legit.
Parking
The lot fills fast, especially in summer. If you’re doing a sunrise elopement, parking is usually easy. But for golden hour? Aim to arrive early, carpool if you have guests, and pack comfy shoes for a short walk.
Best Time of Year
Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot — with summer being the most popular. In winter, the area can be closed or require snowshoes depending on conditions. But if you’re down for a snowy adventure, it’s absolutely stunning.

Picture this: you and your partner walking hand in hand down a pine-lined trail, whispering your vows with the crystal-clear lake behind you. A soft breeze in your hair. Happy tears. Quiet joy. Maybe a champagne pop at the overlook or a boat ride after, soaking it all in before heading back to your cozy Airbnb.
That’s the kind of magic Emerald Bay brings.
