Winter Lake Tahoe Engagement Photos – Itati & Jack

A few months ago, I captured Itati and Jack’s winter Lake Tahoe engagement photos, and it was a dream! Come check it out:

There’s something magical about winter in Lake Tahoe.

The pine trees are dusted in snow, the lake turns a deep alpine blue, and the entire landscape feels quiet and cinematic. Winter engagement sessions here have a timeless quality that’s hard to recreate in any other season.

Itati and Jack’s December engagement session captured exactly that feeling — a peaceful winter morning in the mountains celebrating the season of their engagement before their wedding this summer. And I’m already counting down the days until I photograph their wedding weekend in Lake Tahoe this summer in 2026!

Why Winter Is an Amazing Time for Lake Tahoe Engagement Photos

While summer gets most of the attention in Tahoe, winter is actually one of the most beautiful seasons for engagement photos.

Here’s why couples love it:

Snowy mountain landscapes

Snow transforms Tahoe into a dramatic alpine backdrop with snow-covered peaks and pine forests.

Soft, flattering light

Snow reflects natural light, creating bright and glowing skin tones that photograph beautifully.

Fewer crowds

Winter often means quieter beaches and trails compared to peak summer season.

A cozy, romantic atmosphere

The crisp air, warm layers, and peaceful setting naturally create intimate moments.

For couples who love the mountains, a winter engagement session captures a completely different side of Lake Tahoe.

What to Wear for Winter Engagement Photos in Lake Tahoe

One of the best parts of winter sessions is the cozy style.

For snowy engagement sessions, I always recommend bringing warm layers and textures that photograph beautifully.

Great options include:

• wool coats or structured jackets
• neutral sweaters or knit layers
• boots that can walk through snow
• scarves, blankets, or gloves for cozy moments

Layers not only keep you warm but also add texture and dimension to photos.

Itati and Jack kept their outfits timeless and neutral, which allowed the snowy landscape and deep blue lake to stand out.

A Winter Engagement Session in Lake Tahoe

Winter engagement sessions in Lake Tahoe feel a little like stepping into a snow globe.

Fresh snow transforms the landscape into a clean, minimal canvas, allowing couples to stand out against the mountains and lake. The snow also acts like a natural reflector, creating soft, glowing light that makes winter photos feel dreamy and romantic.

For Itati and Jack’s engagement session, we explored one of my favorite spots on the North Shore. There wasn’t a ton of snow on the ground, but it was still cold nonetheless!

We spent the morning running around on the beach, climbing on the boulders and documenting this incredible time in their lives! My approach is always a mix of relaxed documentary moments, romantic portraits, and just allowing a space to have fun.

Planning a Winter Engagement Session in Lake Tahoe

If you’re considering winter engagement photos in Lake Tahoe, a few things make the experience even better:

Plan around sunset
Winter sunsets come early but create incredible golden light on the lake.

Stay flexible with weather
Snowstorms can make locations inaccessible, so it helps to have backup spots.

Embrace the season
Snowflakes, cozy layers, and the crisp winter air all add character to your photos.

Winter sessions feel a little adventurous — and that’s part of the magic.

Counting Down to Their 2026 Lake Tahoe Wedding

One of my favorite parts of engagement sessions is getting to know my couples before their wedding day.

Spending the afternoon exploring Lake Tahoe with Itati and Jack made me even more excited to document their wedding weekend this summer.

If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day is going to be full of joy, connection, and beautiful moments.

I truly can’t even wait.
